For those that edit their own podcasts or have podcast audio editors do it for them, you should know what LKFS also known as LUFS are.
LKFS is an acronym that stands for Loudness, K-weighted, relative to full scale. It’s also known as LUFS.
LKFS term is used in the ITU BS.1770 standard and the ATSC A/85 standard.
LUFS basically describe a measurement of loudness over a specific time frame.
How loud should podcasts be?
For the most part the, the industry standard is -16 LUFS based on what Apple Podcasts.
Platforms like Spotify and YouTube ask for -14 but most podcasts still adhere to being -16 LUFS.
Usually most recommend to be between -20 and -16 LUFS. I still follow the -16 LUFS for podcasts personally.
